Rally computer settings
Part of advancements of a rally computer mode in version 4.7 is a separate settings screen for the rally settings.
This screen is available either via MENU button in the Rally control panel:
And then a settings button in the top-left corner.
Or via the main MENU button here:
And then Settings > Advanced settings > Rally settings.
Rally settings screen provides options for the distance and target average speed precision (number of decimal places) and ability to set up segments for the rally:
Number of decimal places for distance
Number of decimal places for distance can be 2 or 3 (e.g. 2.33 miles or 2.333 miles to be shown, respectively).
Picking number of decimal places for distance here also influences the distance adjustment options that you can use during the rally.
During the rally you can use the “±” button to show adjustment controls:
When number of decimal places in distance is 3, extra adjustments controls for +.001 and -.001 will be available:
With 2 decimal places for distance, only +.01 and -0.1 incremental adjustment options are present.
Segments
Segments serve for organizing the rally, if needed.
You can totally run your rally without any segment entered and use the SPLIT button in the rally control panel at any moment to split to the next segment/stage.
Segments, when entered, can be helpful in many ways:
- When you enter distance, “Rally distance” gauge will show you remaining distance to end of the segment, in addition to a current distance.
- When you have both distance and target average speed entered for a segment, “Rally timer” gauge in the tripmaster will show you an ideal time for that segment.
Dependent on the segments usage mode you pick in the rally settings:
1. None
Segments are not used, even if you provided them. Only “split” button is show to split at any moment you need.
2. Follow segments one by one.
When you start a rally session, the app starts with the first segment and gives you a button to split to the next segment. When you split to the next average speed segment, the app will of course apply that target average speed value to the off perfect speed rally panel as well.
3. Only give hints on average speed segments.
Also starts with the first segment, but always provides and option to split to a segment with no average speed, plus provides a split option to the next rally segment in the list you provided.
Dependent on information you entered for each segment, segments list provides you with start, end, total distance, ideal time for each segment in the list:
When rally session is not running, you can add, delete, re-order segments. You can also delete all of the segments by tapping on a “…” button and picking “Remove all segments”.
Target average speed - number of decimal places.
That’s mostly for a convinience of seeing target average speed as 50, 60, etc when you don’t need decimal precision for showing the target average speed.
Current average speed in the rally’s tripmaster and off perfect time monitor is show with 4 decimal digits, regardless the above setting.
Backup and restore, or share your rally settings.
Don’t want to lose these 30 segments you entered for the specific rally? Or need to send them to friends so they don’t need to re-enter all the same information?
Backup/restore or Share feature for the rally settings will help you with that!
Use top “…” button in a rally settings screen and pick “Share or backup”.
Save settings file to iCloud Files or send out by email.
When you need to have your specific settings back, including segments, tap on the file in Files app or in email app and use “Open in” option to apply these rally settings in the Speedometer 55 app.
Rally settings file is a simple text/json file. If you need, you can use a text editor to add/update/delete the segments.
