Waypoint collection screen
Allows to add a new points collection or configure existing collection parameters.
Collection type
When adding new waypoint collection you can pick its type:
- Local collection.
Will be local to your iPhone/iPad, you can always export its points to move/share it with the different device.
- Url collection.
This collection points to some url to be downloaded from. For example you can keep your own poi files on Dropbox and refer to them from the app.
Poi/Points file at the url can be plain text, kmz, kml, gpx, any of the supported by app import formats.
File can also be zipped.
- From speedo library.
Other time the app users collected and shared information on different poi and cameras sites that provide prepared files with poi/camera data. Speedometer app collected this on its pages and you can add/install that data with just one tap:
Dependent on type of the collection you are creating, only relevant options to configure will be provided to you.
Default collection
Default collection is the one that new waypoints will be added to. Why notion of default collection is important? Imagine that you have configured the app to create a waypoint when you double tap on the speed digits*. App will add a waypoint for your current location, might add photo and audio note to it, but it would not dare to be asking which collection to add it to, given you are driving. So this waypoint will be added to the “default” collection. You can move waypoint between collections later.
* To configure the app to add waypoint by double tapping on the speed digits, hold your finger on speed digits until menu open, pick “Double tap action” > “Create waypoint” and then configure if you want to add a photo or/and audio note.
Url type of collection with update interval different from Never, can’t be picked as a default collection. I don’t really want you to get points you added overwritten on the next collection sync.
Export
Left bottom action button offers to export all waypoints in the collection. Export options include:
- csv Navigon, iGo, etc formats.
- KML
- KMZ (also allows to attach images and audio notes that you might be having for the waypoints). Ensures 1:1 points transfer between devices, including images and audio notes.
- GPX
Overlay type
Overlay type can be either simple points (not connected and ordered) or a route. Route would represent connected and ordered points that you might travel along.
For overlay type of point you can pick a default point type. Why? When you create this “Ad-hoc” waypoint described in the “Default collection” section, you might also want to tell that its default type is a speed camera, for example. In such case, when this waypoint be created the currently applied speed limit will be used for the camera “watches for speed” value.
Routes in the current app version are really just ordered and connected points that you can measure the distance/length for as “crow flies”. Though the concept of the route will be heavily evolving in the future versions.
This is about it for the collection screen. Related information:
