Online Map Source Cache — Cached Tiles, Browsed Area and Cache Cleanup
Online source map cache lets Speedometer 55 reuse map tiles that were already loaded from an online source, show how much map data is currently stored for that source, and clear cached tiles when you want to free storage or reset stale data.
Best for
- users who want revisited map areas to load faster from local cache
- users who want to avoid downloading the same tiles again when revisiting the same areas, reducing provider load and paid-tile usage
- users who want to see how much online map data is already cached
Online map cache vs offline maps
Online map cache saves data and improves performance by reusing tiles that were already loaded during earlier browsing. It is not a substitute for offline maps — cached coverage depends on what you have actually browsed and may be incomplete. If you need guaranteed tile coverage for a selected area, use the offline map download instead.
What you get
- cache size for the selected online source
- cached tile count
- cached zoom range
- an estimate of the browsed map area currently represented in cache
- actions to clear this source cache or all online source caches
Online map source editor
Open the Maps list and select an online map source such as Open Street Maps.

What the cache section shows
Size shows how much storage the current source cache uses.
Tiles shows how many cached map tiles currently exist for that source.
Zooms in cache shows the zoom range currently present in cache.
Browsed area estimates the area already covered by cached tiles for that source.
The cache note below these values is important: cached coverage depends on what was actually browsed and may still be incomplete even when some tiles are already stored.
Cache actions
Clear this source cache removes cached tiles only for the current online map source.
Clear all online source caches removes cached tiles for all online map sources.
If a cache download is active, the screen may warn that cleanup should wait until the download finishes.
Attribution
The lower part of the screen shows attribution and, when available, links for more information or license details for that map source.
Good first use
- browse the area you need first so the source cache contains the tiles you actually use
- check
Browsed areaandZooms in cachebefore assuming coverage is complete - clear only the current source cache when one provider has stale or unwanted data
- clear all online caches only when you want a full cleanup across all sources
